Hannie's DramaLand :D

So as you guys probably already figured out, I'm OBSESSED with 步步惊心 !! It's been 2 or 3 years since it's aired, but I'm still mopping around about it to myself and I keep thinking that if she had decided to be with 14th or 13th or even become 10th's CeFuJin, would there had been a difference... So yesterday I went back a read a full 2-hour recap from another blog about 步步惊心 from Episode 1 to Episode 35 xD Hehehe... *Figure that I'm tooooooooo OBSESSED now ?* ^ ^

So today, I am going to do a 步步惊心 Character Review. These are just going to be opinions on what I personally think of each character and in the end, I will do ANOTHER review of the drama to sum it all up :)

-Maertai Ruoxi.

This character is the main protagonist played by the ever-so-famous-Hu Ge-sidekicker-aside-from-Yuan Hong-and-WallaceHuo, Cecelia Liu Shi Shi 刘诗诗 :) Her performance in the 2008 Legend of the Condor Heroes with Yuan Hong, Hu Ge, and Ariel Lin... Is rather poor. No offense to those Liu Shi Shi Lovers... But yeah xD Hehe... I would actually say Zhang Xiao was lucky to have the chance to become Maertai Ruoxi 马尔泰若曦 because she actually experienced history itself. I like her... But at the same time... I don't like her. I despise the fact she has to get into EVERYONE'S problem... Like... Seriously ? Haha, but I'll admit I kinda started to miss the spunky 16-year old Maertai Ruo Xi after she "fell in love" with 8th Prince. Despite all that, I think Liu Shi Shi's performance has really improved, and it becomes superb. I do remember reading a little article about her saying that she really felt as though she was losing herself and really becoming Mertai Ruoxi, so she refused to let her friends call her by that name, but calling her Mu Nian Ci and Long Kui was alright :) It makes me wonder... Were all those crying scenes towards the end of the drama real tears then ? Cause it looked pretty heartfelt to me :( She jerked my tears... I really liked her cuteness and playfulness as the young Ruoxi especially with 13th and 10th :) Those were he good ol' days xD Hehehe... I don't like how she uses 14th in the end... *Uhm ! Excuse me girl ! If you don't want that precious hot-handsome-tall-manly guy then I'll take him !* Yes... -.- I'm on 14th's Ship... I'm bias for 14th... Anyways... I think from all Princes, she should have chosen 10th. I think he would have loved her deeper and he would have cherished her more and given her the most attention and happiness worry-free life. I admire the fact thought that she loved all the Princes in their own way... Althought she's cold and distant from 9th she still cared enough to poison him in the end so he can avoid years of humiliation that was waiting for him. It's amazing how fast Ruoxi makes friends too... she's some kind of .... Friend-maker Magnet xD

-4th Prince Yin Zhen

Nicky Wu Qi Long 吴奇隆 comes back from the middle of nowhere and takes on the role of 4th Prince 四爷. I kinda liked Si Ye at first because he seemed really cool and calm and kinda cute even. I started to hate him when he became Emperor. OMG ! I wanted to rip his eyes out, throw it into an ocean infested with sharks, and let the sharks eat it until they poop it out and it becomes nothing but land waste ! Ah ! Well... Hehe xD Okay then. This character is rather sweet... But he's too scheming and too mean... :( I didn't feel bad for him at all towards the end... But I'll have to admit... I did have a bit sympathy after Ruoxi died and he was going through her things and remembering everything between them... :( Omg ! :( *wants to go back and rewatch the drama all over again, but stupidly hopes for a different ending* What angers me most too is how he stole 14th's throne ! ! AiYa ! Si Ye, ni ming ming zhi dao bu shi ni de ! Ruoxi sided with him too... Tao Yan... Nicky Wu says that he first turned down the role of 4th Prince when he first received the script without reading it because he didn't want to sacrifice his hair. But after he took time and read the script the over, it won him over and he had to play the part because it impacted him just from it. Nicky Wu would often get sad or emotional whenever something brings up Si Ye in Bu Bu Jing Xin because just like Liu Shi Shi, he was deeply scarred from the role he played.

-8th Prince Yin Si

Beautifully and nicely portrayed by Kevin Cheung 鄭嘉穎 ! :D I didn't like his character in the beginning where he liked Ruoxi... I mean... Okay I think like a modern-dayed girl, but really ? Your CeFuJin's younger sister ? Who's next ? Ta men Niang Ba ?! Maertai Nai Nai ? O.O Towards the end with just him and his DiFuJin GuoLuoLuo Ming Hui, I began to actually sympathize for him. He built up years of power and dealt with being scolded by other people because his mom was only a low concubine. I started to feel bad for him after 4th Prince begins to slowly destroy him because his acting is sooooo gooodddddd !!! You can literally feel him dying on the inside ! And Omg !!!! The most EPIC part of the drama that 8th Prince has !! :( :( :( OMG ! 4th Prince becomes emperor and orders for 8th Prince and his DiFuJin to be divorced after his CeFuJin Mertai Ruolan passes away :( :( Ahhh ! ! Omg ! His expression while signing the letter of divorce was likeeee... a sad, hurt, disappointed, torturing, confused, lost, painful, and.... Knife-stabbing look ! Omg ! :'( It was just sad... But that's not even the EPIC part yet ! The epic part was after Ruoxi and 13 kick some sense into him, he tries to go back and retrieve Ming Hui only to find her house being burnt down and being told that Ming Hui set the house on fire and hang herself ! ! ! ! *Omg ! I'm getting goosebumps just blogging about it ! !* He then sees her hanging herself surrounded by fire and as 13th Prince holds him back... Kevin Cheung The Master of Bu Bu Jing Xin Crying Like It Hella Hurts Scene, gives out the saddest and most hurtful cry I've seen in 步步惊心 ! :'( :'( Omg ! Wahhhh !!!!!! I wail like a baby and I get goosebumps and chills climb up my spine whenever I come across that scene ! If I had to choose the most sad and depressing scene from 步步惊心 to win an award, I would give it 8th Prince just because of his cry for Ming Hui :( 4th Prince needs to cut this guy some slack :(

-Maertai RuoLan

I would give kudos to TangRen for making Liu Shi Shi and Liu Xin You sisters in this series :) They do kinda resemble one another. Annie Liu 刘心悠 was a wonderful actress in this drama. She played out Maertai RuoLan's longing, hurt, depression, and straight-faced-Ice-Block nicely in the drama :) She can almost pass for "Ice Blocked 4th Sister." Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ! ! ! ! ! :D Anyways.... Hehehehe x) Although they didn't do much on this character, it's enough to make you hurt when she dies peacefully in the end of the drama. I think she was brave for putting up with Ming Hui who was clearly jealous of her because 8th Prince really liked RuoLan, but she was also stupid for hating 8th Prince and not seeing how much he's done. I also find it reasonable for her to hate him too though because... He indirectly purposely killed her lover and caused her miscarriage.

-13th Prince Yin Xiang

Played by Yuan Hong 袁弘 who is a really good actor to start with. I read article saying he had to be chased down by his old company's manager Karen to get him to play this role. He was also currently starring in Ruby Ling's Qing... Fei... Shi.... Something... as the main lead. There's rumors that Hu Ge talked him into taking the role 13th Prince in Bu Bu Jing Xin because they are good friends. I'm glad he chose this drama over the other one, so if those rumors are true, then I only have one thing to say... Fei Chang Gan Xie Ni Oh Jing Ge Ge ! :D I admired 13th Prince because his openess and he a lot of guts to stand up for 4th Prince and take the blame when 8th tried to frame 4th by accusing him of trying to overthrow the Crown Prince. He went to house arrest for .... 10 years, and he even DARED to fall in love with a low status common girl. He was one of the characters in the drama who liked the idea of Democracy, and he liked the "other world" that Ruoxi often talked about; he actually thought like modern day people. I really pitied him when his lover Lu Wu commited suicide leaving only their daughter to him. It's also sad that he has sickness and he blindly helped 4th Prince even after he knew that 4th was up to no good. He was the only Prince from the rest that didn't care, neither did he want the throne. He often longed for a free normal life and wanted to see the world.

-14th Prince Yin Ti <3

林更新 ! ! Ahhh ! Wo De Wang Ye ! :D Ahhhh !! I soooooo ! Love this guy !! :D Omg ! I love him I love him I love him I love him ! ! ! ! :D But it's not his fault that I hate 4th Prince.... 4th Prince has his own reasons for me to hate him ! Anywyas... Lin Geng Xin plays my Si Shi Ah Ge, 14th Prince :D I would admit... I thought he was kinda annoying for a couple episodes because he would not leave Ruoxi alone about 8th Prince, but as he became softer to her I started to like him. Especially when she was punished to kneel in the garden for asking the emperor to allow Lu Wu to go stay with 13th in house arrest, 4th, 8th, and 14th came to pay her a visit... Well... Actually the FORBIDDEN CITY came to pay her a visit. The maids, the eunuchs, and Princes.... Shoot.... Like what 14th once said,"She creates troubles for herself, but everyone around her tries to save her." Well back to the kneeling thing, 4th Prince came and shielded her with his cape, throwing his umbrella away, staying in the rain with her for a mere 30 seconds then hugging her and sees 8th and 14th approaching so he walks off giving his brothers a cold shoulder. Then 8th prince comes and tries to talk to her, but she picks up his robe that his soaked in a puddle of water and hands it to him telling him to leave indirectly so he gets pissed an hits it out of her hands. He tries to leave, but 14th stays behind... And WhaLa ! Like a Hero he pulls out food for her ! ! ! :D :D *.* Omg ! That moment brought a smile to my face and I immediately started to have a major crush on him ! How can she not love this guy ? ? ? ? He even shields her in the rain as they talk and he offers her his umbrella but she doesn't want it and tells him to go back so he does. Omg ! Him and Ruoxi argued like crazy the in beginning, who woulda saw this side of 14th coming ? He is also the war general and misses both his parents deaths due to being at war and he kicks a servant to outer space like a BOSS when the servant tells him to greet 4th Prince as the new Emperor ! I really liked his character although he was imprisoned in the end and blamed for Ruoxi's death... :( Sad, sad. Believe it or not, this was actually Lin Geng Xin's first drama ever where he didn't play a little here-and-there role. He did really good for a starter and was handsomely rewarded :) I will ramble on about him later xD

-GuoLuoLuo Ming Hui

Shi Xiao Qun pays 8th Prince's DiFuJin. I don't got a lot to say about her Character... But I will say that I hated her to my bones in the beginning because she was so mean to RuoLan and Ruoxi... But it's a women's nature to be jealous of other women isn't it ? I started to like her towards the end near her death because I realized how much she loves 8th Prince, how devoted an how true and loyal she is to him. It really sucked that she died so soon. She even attended court for him when he fell "sick" and couldn't go. Thus receiving bad words from the emperor, she smiled and acted like it was all cool. She's really brave and loving, you just have to look deeply inside. I'm proud that 8th Prince regretted not loving her because I think she deserves a man who really loves and dotes on her :)

-Princess Min Min

Tang Ren's... One of their Actresses Guo Xiao Tian plays as the Mongolian Princess who falls in love with 13th Prince during an expedition on the grasslands. Min Min... is a really care free Princess... Which it would be considered lucky by us, but improper by them. But oh well, who cares ? Haha... She plays this role pretty nice as a determined girl. Min Min is supported by Ruoxi and pursues 13th Prince, but is turned down and forced to marry another Prince of Mongolia. She also puts on this really pretty dance for he Princes to watch on their second expedition... But... she's pointing it at 13th Prince obviously.

-10th Prince Yin E

Ye Zu Xin plays the light hearted, free, silly, kidish, and lovable 10th Prince who also doesn't care much for the throne. All he wants is freedom :) What I like about him is that he's not like the other Princes and he is truly the only "happy and bubbly" Prince. He can make Ruoxi smile and he really really likes her. He really wanted to take her as his CeFuJin, but she rejected him even before he can finish his speech. I think he would have been really good and true to Ruoxi if she wasn't so picky and went ahead to like him. I do feel bad for him when he gets forced to marry Ming Hui's younger sister Ming Yu. Her temper really needs some fixin' and she's a well-known complainer. But what's good is that those two actually fall in love and when they're on the brink of a divorce, they fight together and pull it through. :) The only truly happy couple in the drama. I think it's kinda cute how he always gets caught in between Ruoxi and Ming Yu's cat fights xD Haha

-GuoLuoLuo Ming Yu

Ming Hui's younger sister is played by Liu Yu Xin. She's the bratty, complainer, never-lose, sharp tongued, spoiled, stuck-up, girly, feminine, character that kneels to Ruoxi in the end for help. I never really liked her throughout the whole drama... But I'm happy she was able to have a good ending with 10th Prince and live happily.

-Yu Tan

The little description there says it all. Yu Tan is played by Ye Qing... She gets close to Ruoxi, but only because she has intentions of... Doing things xD Haha... She's 9th Prince's secret lover, but he only uses her to get what he wants. I think she really does grow to like Ruoxi and she may even feel bad about her actions. Oh yeah, She's a palace maid that helps Ruoxi serve tea for the emperor.

-9th Prince Yin Tan

The bad and money-loving and scheming 9th Prince is played by Han Dong. He does a really good job of playing this character and really does make him quite hateful. This guy... Is mean and ruthless... Like what he did to 13th's Girlfriend Lu Wu... He's lucky that she didn't hate him for it and 14th Prince came to save her and he's lucky that 10th, 14th, and Ruoxi was there to save him when 13th found out and was about to kick his ass for harrasing his woman. Hahaha xD Omg, Memories of this drama is really too much :( :( :( Oh my oh my...

-Lu Wu

13th Prince's lover is played by Guo Zhen Ni... Sheeeeee.... Isn't the best looking xD Haha but... yeah.. She's a really loyal and loving person. She's big hearted person and nice and supportive, but doesn't give herself credit. She eventually commits suicide because of 13th's stupid CeFuJin and insulted her and made her feel bad by saying that when people find out that she is Princess Cheng Huan's mother and 13th's other CeFuJin, people will laugh at him. So out of guilt that shouldn't even be carried by her, she kills herself leaving her daughter and 13th alone.

-Emperor Kang Xi

Kang Xi is played by Damien Lau and he plays this character so lovely ! :D In most dramas liek this, he emperor is always portrayed as bad, mean, and cold hearted. But Bu Bu Jing Xin shows that an emperor can also be a warm, loving, reasonable, and thoughtful guy and you must remember that he's still a father. He really favors Crown Prince, 14th Prince, and Ruo Xi. He reallly really really hates 8th Prince... I don't why and I was never clear with that...

Overall:

This drama is a really good one ! It's a tear-jerker, a happy-go-lucky, dramatic, cute, romantic, jealousy, and battle all in one :D It's a realy good drama ! I give a lot of Kudos to the writer of the novel Tong Hua for being so good in what she does. She focused this story on true history, but added in an imaginary character and a love story and created something beautiful :) I also like how she's really good at making all the characters so different that even when there's so many people, you can easily remember each one for a different reason. This is the main drama if you guys wanna watch something good, it's 35 hours long but is totally worth the watch. After watching this, I actually studied for once xD Haha I studied he real history behind t and turns out that it's all true, except Ruoxi's love affairs... The fight for the throne is real though. I really really really liked this drama, it will forever remain one of the best dramas of time :D
